While I'm down sick (not covid but feel rotten) I thought I'd start on a "simple" style Staggerwing like the FT simple cub. It also gives me more time to work with Fusion 360. Hope you appreciate the self control it took not to title this thread "Staggerwingly Simple" or "Simply Staggering". This part should probably be in the RANT section. I worked a long day in a factory fixing a couple of machines last week and as I was leaving the owner tells me "It's a good thing you weren't here last week because half my guys were out sick with some respiratory thing but it wasn't covid." Thanks jus a whole bunch!! You could have told me that when I got there not after spending a day with them!!!!  |

Wife's sister and family stayed with us for a week. They left yesterday morning so I can get back to important things. Got the fuselage cut out and glued. The proportions are correct according to the drawings but it sure looks too tall. Maybe it'll be better with the wings on.  |

WOO HOO! I took it over to the soybean field for glide test and with the CG about 1/2" behind the leading edge of the top wing it glides straight and true. It will FLY!!

Finished the Staggerwing and maidened it this morning! You'll see in the video that I've got too much elevator and it's needs a little down thrust but other than that it flies great. Simple box fuselage, two identical wings and 3D cowl and struts, EZPZ.   |

Finished the Staggerwing and maidened it this morning! You'll see in the video that I've got too much elevator and it's needs a little down thrust but other than that it flies great. Simple box fuselage, two identical wings and 3D cowl and struts, EZPZ. Awesome job as always my friend!! And just the kick in the ass I needed to finish up my Pitts! Two servos and that plane is done, 3 channel is obviously all I need for it. Great job building and flying!! |

Way cool it flies great is that FT maker foam you used? I'm thinking of expermenting with some other types of foam and hot wire cutting. But your staggerwing turned out real nice.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy and more than a bit surprised that it worked. It's my first design from scratch that wasn't just a scaling or modifying of an FT design. It's the FT brown foam. I bought a box of it but hate how it paints so I'm doing prototypes and any plane that I don't think will last long out of it and doing keepers out of DTFB. After sealing the edges and coating with poly the DTFB takes and holds paint way better. |

At least you remembered LOL , I usually don't or I forgot the memory card. I missed a lot of stuff LOL, good and bad. You had great success with the DR-1, me not, so I shied away from the multi wing stuff even after trying to revive it as a bi-plane LOL! The Pitts was an experiment in a one piece formed fuse that has seemed to have become an obsession of mine.  |
