What do you all think?

Yes. A little busy for my taste but that's just me. Looks like your getting the process down.

Anyway you've been talking about the process. Now you're an old dog with a new trick.

Inkscape is persnickety with how it will let you use a shape to crop a photo. Basically, what you have to do is copy the outline of the plan, join it together, make a copy of that, fill it with a transparent color so it is uniform, then clip the pattern to shape, then slide it back into the plans. There are tutorials on how to do it, and in reality it should only take like 30 seconds, but there are some extra steps and involvement when you are doing a trim off some plans. Especially if you are doing different sections different colors like I did on the bottom. A single pattern plane would be easier, but then I really would have a busy plane, and I needed to break the camo up with a solid color.

Progress on the Skyray. The spar was an afterthough, I will need to incorporate placement into the plans. I got this one too high, so the wings have some anhederal. The glue up is a little ugly too. I may reconsider how I do the inlets. It is kind of finicky to put together, this one may not be a keeper of a design. 2022-05-07_04-27-41 by Burkeomatic, on Flickr

I ordered one of these. www.racedayquads.com/products/zohd-pnp-drift-fpv-planeI was messing around on RDQ and i saw this plane. It was $119.99 out the door fully loaded with flight controller and AIO camera. Figured it would be a good easy to keep in the car FPV plane. They have raised the price now, but I am pretty stoked to get it. Something simple and relaxing when I don't feel like lugging the night fury along. I figured a zohd kopilot and the camera cost 70 bucks by themselves, so I am getting a functional epp air frame with electronics installed for 50 bucks.

Progress on the ole skyray. I couldn't get the foam to make the curve of the nose I wanted, so I resorted to using a half of an easter egg trimmed down. 2022-05-11_10-16-55 by Burkeomatic, on Flickr

i saw a guy with one of the zohd drifts flew rlly good and i want one I am pretty excited about it. I am not sure how well it will deal on tough wind days, but I think it will be like flying a smaller version of the nightfury. I was pretty happy to get it with the flight controller and camera for $120. I bought a couple of 3s 1100 xt30 batteries to go with it. By the way, I am going to start on a shinden here pretty soon once I am done messing with jets. All I need to do is get my trainer jet and I will start on it. Do you want it boxy or molded?

My molded planes have been pretty easy thus far though. Looks like the shinden is going to be somewhat complex unless I make all of the ducts and stuff optional. Maybe a simple and a more scale one should be the approach. I should be done with it before the end of summer if I keep with it. I am thinking a 30 inch wingspan powered by a 2205 or something. There are some neat looking 6 bladed props in that size that look scale.

I haven't touched the skyray. It is sitting in the exact same state as I left it in a corner somewhere where builds go to possibly die or get procrastinated. I just don't know where I am going to stick the electronics in it. I don't know why I'm not in it to win it with that plane. Oh well. The mig being rebuilt gets priority. I am going to put one of the sparrow flight controllers on it and a little AIO camera too, so it should be a blast. One of the reasons I want geofencing on it, is that frankly the plane hauls nuggets, I have a small flying area, it just makes things more enjoyable with FPV, and when I was being recorded by the quad, I realized that I was absolutely beelining over houses. I was way farther out than I though. Actually, the guy was like "how do you keep track of that little thing so far away going that fast." Well, I lost orientation and crashed it, so not that good. Plus, one of my lighter FPV planes accidentally drifting off track, and falling out of the sky and hitting a house would be one thing, they have a fairly large aerodynamic cross section, and probably wouldn't impact that hard. The night fury might thud, they wouldn't even know if the drift hit it. But, the Mig, which I believe, but can't prove is 100mph capable darting into a house would be another. It cruises about 40-50mph half throttle. Anyway, what I was actually working on tonight was my X-UAV clouds. I have just been picking away on it, and I finally got my ESCs in, so I started putting the plane together. Went to go solder my bullet connectors on, and I spun one of the motors and it was seized. DOA, I never checked it. I hope banggood comes through on their DOA offer, I've heard folks have problems with them. I haven't gotten a broken part from them yet so we shall see how it goes. This thing is my largest plane. It's wingspan is nearly as tall as me! 2022-05-15_10-32-42 by Burkeomatic, on Flickr I've also been working at de-crapping my garage. You can't tell in this pic, but I am making progress.
