It's the perfect day to fly in Indiana and so far an Explorer, DR1, Simple Scout and Staggerwing up and down without needing any repairs!! The topper is flying the Staggerwing with a Bald Eagle checking it out. What I would have given to have the Runcam charged. Nice! I'm not as good at getting bird on camera as I would like, you see it flying around then try to run it down in your FPV goggles. Birds are more nimble than our planes are.... a lot better pilots too!

If you were a fan of the "Still up a Tree" thread on FT (and even if you weren't) here is the concluding episode. Remember this spent five months in a tree through Indiana fall and winter, rain storms and snow storms. I tried to keep as much of the original as I could. Ended up replacing the horizontal stab and elevator, one vertical stab and locked the rudders, a new belly plate and swappable power pod housing. I used the same servos, motors and ESCs. Put on new props, receiver and battery - and lots of tape and hot glue.
It's my homage to "Jimmy's World" YouTube channel, hope you like it!

May have to fire up the ole VPN and duckduckgo and go take a gander. I do remember that thread! I'm glad your conclusion came to a happy end. I'll watch the video in a second. Edit: Super cool, how did it last that long... minwax? It looks like it is still a good flier.

I can't remember if I minwaxed it or not. The original pics I've got don't look like it. Even with the paper flapping in the breeze it still flies great.

I saw the pics when you got it down. What an awesome story, I would say that you have taken build, fly, crash and repeat to a whole new level!! Awesome job putting it back in the air!!

I maiden The FT Tutor today it flew on first launch but it had this peculiar wobble every once in a while on the roll axis the wing would rock back and forth like a pilot signaling. I tried to do some tuning and trimming but the wobble had me worried and I setup for a landing and brought her in. I opt to be cautious and brought her home to look her over. I suspected the gyro gain was set too high. I discovered that I had forgot that I had setup remotely adjustable gain on the Transmitter and it was turned up to full explaining the wobble from over sensitivity. she should fly well next time out.

Welcome back, hope everything is going okay. Good catch on the servo gain. [br Yes I felt very silly when I realized what I had done. The first time I used this type of gyro it was in the FT Simple Cub and I only used 4 channels and the gain for the gyro was set directly on the gyro. This time on the Tutor I got fancy and used channel 5 for remotely adjustable gain and channel 6 for flaps both on the pots on the transmitter. Once I remember that I set it up that why I noticed the gain was cranked up full and that why it would spaz every once and a while.

Good to see you back in the saddle again Randy! I have the gyro in my Super Bandit set up like that so I will keep in mind your experience if I have any difficulties. Got out with the Zohd Drift a few days ago. It was a little tail heavy with a 3s 850 Mah all the way forward, have watched other videos talk about the CG points being more forward than recommended. Throws definitely have to be dialed back a little more and some more expo added. Doing too much flying with the little Xk's, not using my radio enough so need to work on that a bit more. The little RTF's are nice to take out when I have a short time window, but don't help with my stick control abilities on my own equipment. I would expect to see a lot more videos of my FB planes coming shortly. I bought a Reflex V2 gyro, I know made for FMS planes but have read about people using them and having good success, I have a few planes that are similar in parameters and size of some of the FMS models so I am going to see how it works out with those. There is no adjusting gains or anything like that with this gyro, simply download the plane settings you want to use onto the gyro and its good to go. The Drift is all repaired now, its amazing the beating it took LMAO! Was very surprised by the power of that little motor with the tiny 3 inch prop. It seems like it would zip along quite nicely. Not a long video but I am getting out there and giving it a go. Expect to see the Rare Bear by Friday, it is all good to go now, lets see how the Reflex works.

Found that out on the dart 250.

God that little prop looks like a boat propeller. LOL LOL! yep that was my first thought. But it moves it along pretty good, I think I will try it with the 2s recommended prop on 3s like Burkeomatic said and see how it feels with that.

I had another great flight with my rat rod 337. It's becoming my favorite. I mean, what else could I do to hurt it?
