Thank very much to the skill with geometry of "Ratcheroo" . I have started construction of The Shrike Commander Twin. He graciously offered me some help in figuring out the geometry of the tapered wing panels and how to build them. My first attempt wasn't very stellar and ended up in frustration. I just ended up wasting a bunch of Foamboard. I took delivery of the motors two 2212 1400KV motors and in the next hours or so The 7x4x3 three blade props these motors supposedly normally spin a 8x4 prop so I think the 7x4x3s should work out. also coming two 40amp ESCs and a new Flysky 6channel receiver. Im going to try and go with one central battery I have some 3000Mah Lipos that should . I understand there are two ways of setting up twin motors one being each motor having its own battery or a larger central battery I have enough Lipos that I could go ether way what do you guys think? I like the idea of going with the bigger battery in the nose of the plane. I have the 3 wing panels cut out and this is were Ratcheroos inspiration comes in .I was trying to construct this wing with two panels and he came up with doing it in three sections. A million thanks Ratcheroo ! Attachments:

A million thanks Ratcheroo ! View AttachmentBattery set up should really depend on CG if you ask me. There are good debates either way. Those 2212/1400kv motors with 7x4x3 props will rip on 4S. barrett can tell you. Watch this launch with that exact set up and pay attention to how fast it accelerates, that is a 3lb plane too, I've never had a plane just rip out of my hands like that. Then stop watching, because the mic feedback on that is horrific.

Wow it looks like I picked the right setup then. Man what acceleration that looked like zero to 80 in about 1 seconds . I'm going to start off with 3s Batteries but the motors and ESCs are all rated for 4s so I will be looking at what batteries I can pickup for a good price. The shrike is no way going to be three pounds maybe a pound and a half to two pounds tops I have a feeling its going to be fast. The airfoil that I ended up with from Ratcheroo,s design looks super fast as well. I think its really going to scoot My props , ESCs and receiver all came in this afternoon The props are from a new company based out of Atlanta GA called HQ propellers polycarbonate made for drones.

I love my HQ props. HQ, DAL, for my big planes and azure power for the smaller ones. We may actually have the same props, I have HQ 7x4x3 on my dragon, which I am incidentally getting ready to go fly. The folks that have liperior batteries are having a sale now. This is where I got the batteries for bwarz p36 for cheap. They have 4S 2200s for 17 bucks and other decent deals. rcbattery.com/autumn-wonderland-of-savings.html

Also in agreement with Burkeomatic on the motor/prop selection, should be a really nice setup. Looking forward to seeing how this one finishes up, you have a good start and a good set of plans so I am sure it will be something special. Great job on the wing (two thumbs up!)

Thanks Man coming from a master Like you that means a lot. I have had some time at the building Table and have got more of the shrike done started work on the fuse and tail feathers . Hey have you guys seen Dollarama Foamboard It looks like Dollartree Foam Board but it seems to be covered with poster board. I checked the weight and a sheet of DTFB comes out on my scale at 110 grams .The Dollarama FB comes out at 130 Grams per sheet it quite a bit heavier but its also seems tto be more ridged and stronger . I may start using it for places were I need some extra strength or stiffness.

That sounds like what the Ross used to be. It was a little bit more weight, but also a fair bit more tough. Now it is just like the elmers.

It is a little heavier but I tend not to think too hard on that, by removing paper and not over-engineering internal structure it can be managed. Some people like using posterboard, some don't, I happen to think its a great thing to use and very versatile, also a great way to save weight. My HE-100 fuselage is skinned entirely with posterboard and has held up remarkably well. The Shrike is coming along nicely, you have been busy! Nice work!

Yup working away at this one got a little more done started the engine nacelles and glued together some Elmer's foam board together with Gorilla Glue to form the nose block. Yes I use Gorilla glue!! I was looking at stuff on the net about modern modifications to the Shrike Commander and I found one for winglets on the wing tips. r
