By what folks have told me, either golden age or x-plane. We can incorporate oddball into x-plane for foamieninja and whatever idea he has cooking. Also we had the idea of the 2205/6 challenge too. The idea is to have the challenge start in october or so and go through march, so folks have plenty of time to build their probably oddball plane, design it, and fly it whenever flying weather returns. Entry deadline being around christmas time or so. Discuss.

does a chinook ultralight count as oddball? Sure it is experimental.

My thought would be the oddball (Vultee XP54/XP68), but I just found one quite cool looking Czech plane that would fit well into the golden age... ...the Avia B-534, started production 1935! This just make me smile
Good thing the challenge will make it's way into March - gonna need that time to work on everything else I have started (and will likely start...)!

Looks like a sweet plane, has some grumman F3F vibes.

Yes but with a P40 fuselage! It's funny how you can look at many of the planes from that era and see how everyone kinda copied off of each other with this or that. I was digging around for pics of the Vultee XP68 and found the Saab 21 which is quite reminiscent of the XP54/XP68 without the gull wing (which I think is what makes it look so cool!)

I think I want to make a Double Ender STOL - quite an oddball IMO

I suppose the point of a competition in this context is to design and build and test fly in response to the competition. Myself, I have this Dissa Ray that wants to fly one of these days. It seems to fit the oddball category - I've never seen a plane like it as a model or a full-size plane. Since I built it last year, I don't mind at all if it doesn't qualify for the challenge, but I would enter it as an exhibition entry anyway. That would just mean no score, no ranking, no prizes.

Hey! Smart design. Love it. And I love to see some more basic construction techniques now & then too.
