Alright, this was going to be a surprise after I finished up the white shark, but seeing as how that plane isn't here yet (and questionably never will be?) I got this bad boy in the mail today. I scored the kit on ebay for $100 shipped which is inexpensive for this kit. I didn't buy the PNP version this time (although they really just throw a handful of electronics in the kit box and call it a day). Yall know I miss my first one, and once I got it flying right, was one of my favorite planes. Unfortnately the box looked like this, but all is well. 20220706_162102 by Burkeomatic, on Flickr Plans include a firefly 6 camera, a TBD VTX (probably the mamba diatone 1000) and either the JHEMCU flight stabilizer or a matek one running INAV. Motors are going to be DYS sunfun (or fun sun) 2306 1700kvs spinning some 7 inch props. I have some for real metal gear servos coming in, after Oliver or Quinn pointed out to me that the MGS90 servos aren't actually full metal gear. 20220706_202310 by Burkeomatic, on Flickr Just getting the base put together so that i can get the motor wires cut to the right lengths and make it nice and clean.

Alright, I've got her all together. I used truck bedliner coating to skid peoof the bottom, lets see how that works out. I trashed the ft mini zero today, as i was throwing stuff out, i stubled upon the sticker set.

I got lazy and put the airloaders fc in this because I wasnt a huge fan of how it was laid out, I couldn't figure out how to flip it around, I am not that great with Inav yet. So I didn't want experimental hardware on my dragon just to jinx it again. Anyway it flew great. I always maiden these in crazy wind, gusts nearly 30mph, sustained 21mph, Ill load up some videos, no HD stuff, it was just too windy, I couldnt tell what was fighting the wind and what was a trim issue. I think i have a little aileron trim to work out.

Here is some flight footage, the landing was rough on this one, I was fighting with it the whole time for the wind, and i was just ready to put it down.
I forgot how much better this thing is than the airloader.

This is how she sits now. Got rid of the zero livery, and I changed the props to DAL 7056X3 props. Although I have been about the business of loading up higher pitch speed on these, and it really didn't do me much good over the 7040s. I was able to achieve 145kmh, as opposed to 130, but it pulls 42 amps instead of 30. It cruises slightly more efficient, but I can't say it was worth paying the money to upgrade. Plus, you don't have to be as careful managing throttle with the lower pitch speed. This plane really doesn't like to cruise over 90kmh anyways, anything over 90-100 you are just burning amps for no reason. The DYS sun fun motors are kicking butt and I have zero complaints. I have a 4s2p 9000 mah battery I just got in, we're gonna send it with that later this week. See how she goes.

Now that I have a few flights with the V1 I don't think it needs a horizontal stab. Well, if you have wild thumbs or don't know how to set expo it can be twitchy. I got it flying hands off with no stabilization. Just ordered 1.3ghz video gear for it. I will start a new thread when it gets here.

If you are talking about the absurd amount of aileron authority these planes have, then I feel you. I run around 50 percent rates in acro/manual mode. I think foamieninja has some 1.3 ghz stuff.

I have low rates set at 70% throw/30% expo. High rates are 100% throws/15% expo. That is where I start all my planes, really.

The cool thing is you can set roll rate in that in degrees per second. I only have it quasi working on one plane. Autotuning/auto trim was pretty cool. Although the plane was manually trimmed out already. I know you can just do auto trim in Inav, but if your controller for whatever reason fails, and you have to go manual mode, you want your plane to fly straight. I am debating selling my back up RDV2, I have it for a backup since I got it cheap, 130 for the pnp cheap, but I also feel like if I sell it, I will lose my plane the next day. I lost my first one due to noobness and a lost gps signal.

Always good to have a backup. You guys will get me into FPV yet. I may end up with an extra plane after I test one. I would offer you the clouds but shipping would be insane, ratcheeroo ended up with the S800.

GetFPV shipped my F405-WMN this morning. Not sure if I wanted iNav or AP. But now I have a choice. I didn't with another Sparrow or the F411.
