Proof of life. Not the best conditions but the best in 2 weeks. I got rid of the under cambered wing tips in this version and almost paid the price for it at about the 1:15 point in the video. Nice, I saw your video pop up in my feed when I was at the beach. Just carry more speed. Undercamber wingtips are for sissies.

I'm amazed how slippery this thing is. I'm going to try some split flaps to slow it down to land.

Here are some lowish passes along with one go around and long landing.

Here are some lowish passes along with one go around and long landing. .... and a couple of short takeoffs. Actually, don't listen to my advice, I think it is perfectly fine to belly land overweight planes at 30mph. I've given up on finessing landings on anything but the king twin and my jets, I just sort of do controlled crashes and hope for the best.

... and a couple of short takeoffs. Yeah, I've got my smallest wheels on it, tundra tires just didn't look right. Couldn't handle the rough ground and growing sow beans.

Oh dam you had some bad luck too! I think I can replace the wing and rebuild the nose. Already have a new cowl printed and I saved the flag graphics so that's easy enough. Still ruined my morning. I'd just had a nice flight with the Staggerwing and was maybe a little too cocky.

Ouch! Yep that's a bad feeling after a good flight and yea I can totally relate to the getting cocky thing. Get er back together that's a sweet plane!

I replaced the wing, cowl and the nose from the hatch forward. Flew it for the first time after repairs and no surprises, didn't even have to adjust the trim. A nice stable flight with a soybean assisted landing - kinda like the barrier safety net on a carrier. Of course I failed to turn on the camera until I thought I was turning it off so I got some video of walking to the plane.

Not sure when I stopped repairing planes and just building another one, but I did. I don't have a dtfb plane in the hangar (I killed my jet last weekend) and I'm thinking I need to build another.

I'm beginning to move to the same mindset if a plane is damaged beyond a certain point it makes more sense to replace rather then repair and I'm noticing that some of my older DTFB planes are not standing up to the test of time.my FT Simple soarer has slowly warped and the recent recovered FT Spear is really a total write off. I'm actually thinking of sourcing balsa and going old school.

My spitfire is over a year old and is showing some wear and so is my simple scout at 2 years but that's mostly from landing in soybeans. I built a Willie Nillie's cub and realized what an impatient builder I am, and cheap. I can buy 5 sheets of foam board for the price of a roll of monokote. The cub will last much longer because it's hanging from the ceiling after I gave up trying to fly it. I'm not anti-balsa but, for me, I'm sticking with foam board for the instant gratification and cost.

We all know I'm not beyond pissing money away, but I am also cheap... no logic here, I work for the government. I really, really, really hate coating planes. Have I mentioned I hate coating planes? If I buy another balsa bird, I'm buying a ARF that is covered. I've been thinking about grabbing a value hobby one.

I didn't have near as much trouble covering large gliders as I had with the tiny Cub.
