Many years ago I built one of these from the Ace kit and didn't even get to fly it much The two 049 motors sounded like a bee hive was driven insane. LOL. With the advent of brushless electric motors twins and multiengine planes have become much less complicated. with nitro engines you had to have a tachometer and the motors required syncing. Any How IM going to take a stab at it and try to construct the old friend from DT foam board. I was thinking of using Two 2205 2300kv F pack motors which I have already or two 2212 1000kv motors like what the guys are using on the FT Bronco. The F pack motors seem to me to be the equivalent of 049 motors in thrust and swing the same size prop. Attachments:

I was just considering one of those, there is actually a neat 3d printed version too, it looks like it would make a good simple build and fly well. What wingspan are you going for. Looks like we are on the same wavelength. Don't get bit by the twin bug. I ran these motors on the airloader, I bet they would rip on a sleeker plane, plenty of power to get the flying box up to 70-75mph and torque to rip right out of your hand with some 7x5 or 7x6 props on 4s. valuehobby.com/2212-1400kv.html

Well now you have me interested the Plans Im working with are a span of 50 inches. The mean cord is 7 inches thats the average area of your run of the mill RC trainer. Do you think the 2212 1400kv would spin a 7x5 with 3s I have 7x5 and 7x4sf props. I did a check and the 2212 size motors will fit very nicely in the engine nacelles by just moving the firewall forward a fraction of and inch or so and the esc can be housed in there as well and even vented for heat. The real shrike commander has these vents. Im going to use your tip on the elevator to make the v in the tail feathers.

If you want to go lighter, a 2207/1700kv will work with a 7x4 or 7x5 prop all day long to on 4s, so yet again it would be easy for 3S. I haven't tried it, but I suspect a 2207/2100kv would spin a 7 inch one on 3s. I like these in the 1700kv flavor. I run them all day on the dragon 4S with a 7056 prop and I have hammered on it and never had it the motors more than slightly warm or cruise at about 6.5 amps combined, which is great for a twin. www.getfpv.com/dys-sunfun-2207-motor.htmlIf you get lucky you can find em on ali express for about 8 bucks each.
