I snapped this pic today after testing a gyro, and it reminded me of the retirement of my P-40.

I have always regretted disassembling that P-40, it flew great. I had it all dialed in, it was just showing some wear, and the wing was crooked. I disassembled my perfect P-40 on the ground after stripping a servo.
However, the night fury has a good bit more wear and tear on it. It has to be disassembled every time it is transported, and the wing doesn't have any reinforcement. Where I have been flying it with a heavier battery the wing is starting to wrinkle quite a bit. I took it out about 3/4 of a mile today due to the limit of the crappy camera on it, but I am not sure I trust it more than that at this point. I could probably drop back to a 3S 2200, but as I was flying it in relatively windy conditions with the 4s 4000 on it, I noticed the wrinkles had increased considerably, and the wings had quite a bit more "added dihedral" in flight today.

This is a good design, and you should build one, but i have plans for a v2 with shorter wings so I don't have to take it down all the time to fit in my car, and no dihedral so that i can better reinforce the wing, you don't need dihedral doing long range with stabilization anyways.
I have it down right now, noticing the repairs that probably need to happen on it. The wing reinforced, the nose beat up by hitting athletic equipment, dings in the wings from where I "missed a field goal" and so on. It still flies excellent, that is why would feel bad about giving it the axe, maybe finally get a good flight video (I forgot my memory card today) before. I also don't want to snap a wing far away from home, and lose an expensive battery and nice receiver (the gyro and camera are garbage and I wouldn't be upset about those) for no real reason.

Anyways, let me know what you think. I'll hang it back up for the night and think about it. It is tons more fun to fly than the drift because it is fast and can overpower the wind (what wind). Keep in mind, this is my prototype I built to learn from I threw together with a yardstick, razor knife, and a random idea. I didn't really build it to last, and I was expecting this to last maybe a few flights, go back to the drawing board, draw some plans, and go from there, but it ended up flying so well, I just made plans based on this plane and I kept flying the prototype. I threw minwax on it and wood glued the edges in hindsight and I am genuinely shocked I didn't snap the wing on maiden in 30mph gusts and looping it.
As a consolation for me forgetting my memory card today, I threw it into RTH/loiter mode and snapped a cell phone shot of it circling. After I noticed the hawk was interested in me, I took back control, he followed me around for a while, then I followed him for a while. The hawk was more maneuverable than this plane with the crappy stabilized mode on.
